Welcome To The Official Page Of The St Bernard Owners Club
Welcome to the official website of the St Bernard Owners Club Inc (SBOC). The SBOC was formed in 2010 by a group of St Bernard enthusiast who wanted a club that catered for all aspects of St Bernard ownership. SBOC is proud to be an independent club which aims to promote responsible ownership and breeding of the St Bernard across Australia. The SBOC's main focus and emphasis is on the word OWNER and in doing this we encompasses all area's of St Bernard ownership including but not limited to showing, breeding, obedience, pet ownership, welfare and people who have a general interest in the breed.
The SBOC's mission statement is to promote the health and welfare of the St Bernard, by offering support and advice to owners and enthusiasts through education and participation. To satisfy this mission statement the club holds an annual Social and Breed Information day, packed with activities, entertainment and expert advise from industry professional, breeders and other owners along with various other events throughout the year that everyone is welcome to attend.
The SBOC also has a junior members club, which meets at all the clubs general meetings and has a liaison officer between it's sub-committee and the clubs main committee. Along with holding their own events throughout the year, the junior St Bernard Owners Club members learn from professionals how to handle large dog's on and off lead, how to groom, feed and care for a St Bernard, along with the history of the breed. Our junior members are also encouraged to compete for junior handling awards at our Social and Breed information days and are on display at all of the clubs events throughout the year.
Welfare of the St Bernard is a major concern to all of our members and the St Bernard Owners Club runs a rescue and welfare section. The club has a very comprehensive welfare policy, which allows us to rescue and re-home dogs that the club are made aware need help. Many St Bernard dogs that require re-homing are simply due to changes in owners circumstances and the club's welfare officer endeavors to match dog's with the best possible owner. If you are searching this website because you are looking to purchase a St Bernard, think about giving a welfare saint a new home.
From time to time members who have litters of pups available will have a notice on our puppy page. Please note that the club as a whole, does not recommend breeders or litters and people who are searching for a puppy should do their research about the breed, the breeder and the history of the parents of any pup before you make a purchase. The club, however, will offer general advice about questions to ask, the history of the breed and what you should be looking for in a healthy and happy puppy. The St Bernard Owners Club also offers a puppy information pack which contains all of the outlined information as stated above.
